Ballet120 is an innovative, professional dance company founded in the fall of 2018 by dancer and choreographer Benjamin Tucker. The mission of Ballet120 is to bring a new awareness and love of the art form by using social media platforms to showcase videos of 120 seconds or less. Ballet120 seeks to change how ballet can sometimes be limiting in its exclusivity by engaging a larger, more diverse audience. Part of engaging a larger audience is utilizing dance in all its forms and while the company specializes in ballet, dancers of all genres are used to create new work. The company is comprised of dancers from across the world and strives to be a part of the greater Las Vegas community through collaboration such as working with local composers, musicians, and choreographers.
One of the company’s first videos, Butterflies, was selected to be screened at Concept, a Las Vegas dance film showcase. Ballet120 was invited to perform in Ballet Tucson’s annual show Footprints at the Fox in both 2018 and 2019. Two original works were presented by the company there; Light Passing (which was live-streamed during the performance) and Too Somewhere. In 2019, Ballet120 was commissioned to create and perform a new work for The Composer’s Showcase at Myron’s Cabaret Jazz at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts. In May of 2020, Ballet120 premiered a collaborative video focused on the quarantine experience titled Daydreaming of Tomorrow, which paired a solo dancer with violinist De Ann Letourneau, concertmaster of the Las Vegas Philharmonic. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Ballet120 was able to host their own summer intensive via Zoom for young dancers, teaching classes such as ballet, pointe, and contemporary. Ballet120 strongly believes in recognizing the importance of dance as an integral part of our society and is committed to consistently pushing the art form forward while remaining open to the endless opportunities the community presents.
